Easy Butterfly Drawing. How To Draw Step By Step.

Hey Folks! It may sound strange, but this is how it was in reality. I was looking at the crowns and monarchs of the Middle Ages and then there is a boom, a new thought. “Monarchs can be different.” A second later, butterflies were flying in my head, my hands were making strokes and I drew a monarch’s butterfly. This’s a cool practice of strokes, interweaving, play of light, and complex lines. So let’s draw this magic of wings and monarchs. Try also my tutorials of a moth, a feather, and a cactus. Now let’s dive into the world of lines and good mood.

For drawing an easy monarch butterfly with a liner, you’ll need:

  1. Watercolor paper 120 gsm (90lb)
  2. Pencil HB
  3. Gel pen 0.5, black, and grey
  4. Eraser extra soft

You may use other supplies, but the result may be different. So enjoy the process and not the result.

How to draw step-by-step:

1. Draw a marking grid.

2. Draw an oval in the middle with a pencil.

3. Draw two symmetrical C-curved lines.

4. Draw the shape of the wings with C-curves.

5. Draw the lower part of the wings. Add the head. Erase the extra contours.

6. Add internal lines. These are C-curved lines.

7. Draw lines in the wings.

8. Draw all the lines with a black liner.

9. Apply the darker parts.

10. Apply more the darker parts.

11. Add shadows.

12. Add halftones with a grey liner making the depth.

13. Add details.

14. That’s it.

Happy Drawing!
